Rob Kearney in contention for Scotland match despite calf injury

Ireland's Rob Kearney is in doubt for the World Cup opener against Scotland after the full-back suffered what an IRFU spokesperson described as "a bit of tightness in his calf.”

But the Irish Rugby management has said that the 33-year-old is still in contention to face Scotland on Sunday despite the “tightness” in his calf.

Kearney will now have the chance to prove his fitness on Wednesday.

Ireland are already likely to be without the services of Robbie Henshaw, who is battling a hamstring complaint.

Head coach Joe Schmidt has opted not to replace Henshaw, even though the likes of Will Addison remain on standby back at home.
